How to Select an Alltel Prepaid Cell Phone Plan
By Tidbits
The right Alltel prepaid cell phone plan can work well for individuals who do not want monthly cell phone bills. With three prepaid cell phone plans to choose from, Alltel offers an alternative to the traditional one to two-year cell phone contract and associated billing structure. Keep in mind, however, that just because it is a prepaid cell phone plan without monthly obligations, it doesn’t mean that it’s cheap. Sometimes prepaid cell phone plan flexibility comes at a price.
Step 1
Visit the Alltel.com web site.
Step 2
Enter your zip code to see if you live within the Alltel cell phone plan service area. Alltel is located in Arkansas and their service is not available throughout the US. If you live in areas like New York or New Jersey, look to other services such as Verizon or T-Mobile prepaid cell phones.
Step 3
Select one of Alltel’s prepaid cell phone plans. Alltel wireless offers a per day plan for 75 cents per day plus 10 cents per minute for text messaging, a 15 cents per minute plan which includes nationwide and international ional calls (they charge 59 cents per minute roaming) and a monthly plan for $29.99 which includes 200 anytime minutes and 1,000 night and weekend minutes.
Step 4
Modify the plan. While the daily and minute prepaid cell phone plans don’t have options, Alltel wireless allows prepaid cell phone users to increase the anytime minutes from 200 to 400 minutes which also increases the night/weekend minutes from 1,000 to 2,000 for an additional $10 per month. Cell phone users also have the option to choose 700 anytime minutes for $69.99 per month, which also includes unlimited nights and weekend usage (visit the web site for further plan details).
Step 5
Choose the phone. After you’ve decided on which Alltel prepaid cell phone plan works best for you, choose the phone. Phone prices range from free to a few hundred dollars. Make sure the phone you select is compatible with the prepaid cell phone you choose.
Step 6
Use an Alltel coupon. Before you enter your credit card information to purchase the phone and the prepaid cell phone plan, be sure to use available Alltel coupons. Web sites like Retailmenot.com and Couponmountain.com offer coupons for Alltel phones. Always make sure to double-check the coupon expiration dates before using.

How to Buy an Alltel Prepaid Cell Phone
By eHow Electronics Editor
With an Alltel prepaid cell phone, you get all the advantages of wireless communications, minus the headaches and hassles of credit checks and restrictive contracts. Through the Alltel U division, you can purchase a wide variety of flexible pay-as-you-go plans that let you walk away without obligation if you decide to cancel your service.
1 Shop for your Alltel prepaid start-up kit through an authorized online retailer, at your local electronics or wireless communications retailer or directly through Alltel.
2 Select a plan from one of Alltel's three major categories: pay by the day, pay by the month or pay by the minute. Each has its advantages, and you should choose the option that's right for you by considering how often you'll need to use your cell phone.
3 Browse through the various phones Alltel offers with its plans, and pick the features you want. You can include text and picture messaging, voice mail, Internet and email access and customized ringtones as part of your prepaid package, for a small additional charge.
4 Follow the instructions you received with your prepaid phone kit to activate your new cell phone, or get help from your local authorized Alltel retailer. If you already have a cell phone, you can simply add an Alltel prepaid phone package to it and avoid the cost of purchasing a new unit.
5 Use your minutes in accordance with your plan, taking care to budget them out over the month. If you find you have a lot of minutes left over, try going with a different plan to save some money. Also, you can take advantage of Alltel's special rates on access to the numbers you dial most.
6 Continue to renew your minutes each month, or cancel your cell phone plan by using up your minutes and failing to add more. Alltel will deactivate your service once your minutes expire and you don't buy additional airtime.
